The main things are as follows.
1. Make things that you carry are silent and do not produce sounds that are unnatural in your surroundings. Having your bag's steel zips clinking together is not natural in a park.
2. Remove reflective objects
Try not to have reflective material on you. That includes glasses, watches, shiny belts as these may reflect light, if they reflect light directly into your target's eyes, he'll definitely be on high alert.
3. Watch your shadow and reflections.
Always remember where the light source is. If it is behind you, try to keep your shadow out of his view. The human eye's view is extremely wide, about 110 degrees. If you plan to ambush your target, and you realise that your shadow is crossing your target's path, make sure you do not move. It works better if you're up against a car or a wall as it adds more distortion. Another thing is reflection in the area around you, and this is the hardest to watch out for.
4. While stalking, try not to go too close, 20-30 metres is good enough. Always walk slowly, as it is easier for the eyes to spot colour differences and movement. Try to wear colours which blend in. Ofcourse wearing camo-fatigues is not practical in urban areas, plus, you'll look stupid. So just try to wear dark colours such as black/grey, or colours natural to your surroundings.
Stupid tips for sneaking out of your room at night. If you think your family is asleep and the house is naturally dark, and you intend to use a torch.
1. Off all electrical appliances in your room, and wait for a moment before you open the door just a crack, just to look out. Obviously, the reason to this is because you don't want light flooding your hallway. And less obviously, is so your eyes get used to the darkness.
2. To use lights in your room and not wanting light to leek out through the cracks under the door. Usually, its the crack under the door that gives you away, the ones on the sides are less threatening. Use a towel, and just line it against the door crack when the door is closed.
3. If you have a uber loud door lock like mine. Mine is a lever style handle with the turning kind of lock. Disarming the door is extremely loud. The quietest way is to hold the lever with one hand, and the lock in the other. Push the lever slowly until you feel it against the disarming mechanism, then turn the lock and push at the same time and really slowly.
4. Regularly lubricate your door hinges, especially if your door is heavy. If you still cant get rid of that squeaking, after you open the door an inch (from 1.), just swing the door open as quickly as you can. when you're out, close it quick too.
Stalker wins.
